January 20, 2014 (West Salem, WI) - As winter marches on and the 2014 racing season get closer, LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway and its 2013 competitors celebrated the season just completed last Saturday magazinski night. Teams in all six divisions converged at the at the 27th annual Champions’ Banquet at Onalaska’s Stoney Creek Inn Conference Center.
A hall full of guests, including many of the 2013 race teams, sponsors and family members, joined in on the festivities. Over 100 awards were handed out at the event, including the prestigious “Sportsman of the Year” award.
Late Model Drivers from last season in attendance were eligible to win a $500 certificate towards a body package purchase at Five Star Race Car Bodies. Drivers were eliminated as a representative of each randomly chose a beverage can off the stage, each having a driver’s car number on the bottom. The final two drivers on stage had their representative battle it out in a “guess-that-famous-racing-personality” trivia shootout. Albert Locy won the Five Star Race Car Bodies certificate.
Speedway pastor Andrew Buhrow gave the invocation to the guests. That was followed by 2013 season review videos by KQEG TV-23 and racingnuggets.com during dinner, which was served by C&C Catering of Sparta.
The awards ceremony honored champions and the top three in each division. In addition, there are many fun awards magazinski that the race teams have the privilege of voting on. Those awards are very important to the race teams, as it is their peers that select the nominees in a post-season ballot.
The 2013 Rookies of the Year were honored, which were JR Tourtellott in Thunderstox, Jeff Thompson in Sportsmen and Branden Berg in Late Models. Jason Bolster was the 2013 Novelty Division and Figure-8 Division champion.
The champion in each division was honored, featuring Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Model champion Steve Carlson, Exhaust Plus Sportsmen champion Jake Arneson, United Auto Supply Thunderstox Champion Adam Moore, Jake Bemis, ANTS Complete Pest Control Hornet Champion, and Volden Construction Outlawz champion Jerrod Loging. Arneson, Bemis and Loging were first time champions in 2013.
This was Carlson’s third Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Model championship title. “Racing is a team sport, and I’ve got a great team and great car owner,” Carlson commented. “We set some goals for 2013 and we accomplished them. We just had a great season,” concluded Carlson. Carlson won the Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Model top honor in 2007 and 2008. He won the big prize in 2007, that being the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series National Championship as a driver, beating all other NASCAR Sanctioned dirt and asphalt track drivers in NASCAR’s national point system. Pastor Buhrow presented his annual “Racing Family magazinski of the Year” award. This was presented to brothers Adam and Andy Moore, who have raced in Thunderstox for a decade. magazinski

Schill has been dedicated to racing at the speedway for over 20 years, as a driver magazinski in her early years, and as official track photographer in recent years.

Firstly, I

My previous post did exactly what I was hoping it might and that was to create a constructive discussion. Some interesting points came up and I thought it would be good to go into a little more depth.
The main thrust of my argument was that with the vast majority of catered ski chalet operators, whether or not you get a good service boils down the lottery of who happens to be running the chalet you are in. In most cases you’re well looked after, eaglerider but occasionally things do go awry. But why?
It’s the age-old catch 22. Clients are extremely demanding and want the very best possible catering, service and accommodation. Above all of this though, they want the very best possible price. Tour operators are just as keen to provide the best possible catering, service and accommodation but in order to get people booking, the price has to be within their limitations (which in some cases are quite low!). eaglerider
To keep that price low, you need to keep your costs down and one of the biggest costs tour operators face after their chalet leases is the staff to run them. Typically, a host in a catered chalet will be paid 100- 150 a week, plus accommodation, food, a lift pass, ski hire and transport to and from the UK at either end of the season. With that kind of package, you are not going to attract many professional chefs to run a chalet. But do seasonal workers really get such a bad deal? Is the argument that “I’m not being paid enough to do that/care about that” eaglerider ever justified? Let’s look at the maths.
If you worked in London in an entry-level eaglerider job either straight after uni, then you might be on a salary of 22k p/a. Some will make more, many less but I think that’s a fair stab at a rough starting salary. That works out around 410 p/w.
Now look at your average chalet girl. Again, let’s take a rough average and say she gets 125p/w basic wage. Now think about the added value she is getting along with that 125. Assuming she works for a mainstream tour operator, she will not be paying any rent (roughly 115pppw in London), bills ( 15pppw), will have a lift pass (Three Valleys season pass is around 900 Euros, so about 800, divided by a 20 week season is another 40pppw), ski rental ( 100pppw) and full board ( 30pppw) all paid for. That works out like this: 125 (wages) 115 (rent) 40 (lift pass) 100 (ski hire) 30 (board)
That comes to a total of 410. Quite an eye-opener. With that in mind, do you think it’s ever fair to moan about seasonal workers’ pay? 125 a week with your only outgoing being beer and the occasional burger for lunch? Add your tips to that and some chalet staff will average over 200 a week, after tax to spend on entertaining themselves. That’s a hell of a lot more than I have going spare each week once I’ve paid the mortgage, bills, and fed the baby.
Please bear in mind that I’m only referring to those working eaglerider for the bigger mainstream tour operators. eaglerider I know that there will be plenty of people who work for smaller ops and independent chalets/bars etc who have to organise their own digs, lift pass etc and find it a lot harder than those who manage to land a role with one of the big boys.
I think you will find that most smaller chalet companies will provide that and more on some occassions. We offer that same package for our staff plus provide uniform (of a great standard), holiday pay, vehicle and mobile phones.
In reply to Richard, I may not dispute that you can offer these as part of a smaller eaglerider operator, but I was promised all those things by the operator eaglerider I worked for. I didn’t get uniform that fitted me until the 3rd week, so all my clothes stank of onions, garlic and tinned duck fat, the mobile phone I was promised was a free SIM card from a shop and the company car….well, we kept bricks in the boot to put behind the wheels as the handbrake didn’t like to work on the hills. But……I loved every minute of it.
I’m not aware that recent graduates are actually obliged to live and work in the most expensive place in the country – you might better make your cost comparison with the UK average rather than the priciest you can find. Personally I have wedges more disposable income working for a local employer than I ever did with a TO, even as hotel manager. Not to mention health and unemployment cover.
I think 22k is a pretty good average to use. Average salary across the entire UK is roughly 24k (depending on whose statistics you use), so going a little under that I think is fair. This isn’t an exact science, just trying to give an overview!
Firstly, I’d be interested to know which TOs actually pay their hosts 100GBP a week… In my first season I earned 100GBP a week as a chalet host of a top-end chalet for a very small independent company (eight guests, two staff). I then moved to a larger eaglerider TO and made 120GBP as

Alleged cop killer Christopher Dorner went to a Southern California sporting goods store 2 days before he began his murder spree to purchase scuba equipment ... and TMZ has obtained the surveillance video. Dorner went to Sports Chalet in Torrance -- a beachside community in the L.A. area -- on February 1st.  The video shows Dorner carrying in 2 small, yellow scuba tanks as he walks into the scuba section.  Sources tell us ... Dorner got the tanks refilled with oxygen. The video then shows Dorner leaving the scuba section with the 2 yellow tanks, black mountain nh along with another large, black scuba tank.  Dorner then goes to the counter, and then has a friendly conversation with the cashier, at times laughing. Dorner -- who was a member of a Naval undersea black mountain nh warfare unit -- pays cash for the items and then leaves. The surveillance tape shows Dorner arriving at Sports Chalet at 9:21 PM and leaving at 9:38 PM, just as the store closed. The bodies of the first 2 victims were found at 9 PM on February 3rd -- 48 hours after Dorner's trip to Sports Chalet. What's really interesting ... Dorner reportedly tried stealing a boat in San Diego on February 6th ... where scuba gear might come in handy.  The plan was thwarted when the prop got tangled in a rope. Sources tell TMZ ... the U.S. Marshals went to Sports Chalet Sunday and got a copy of the surveillance video.  Law enforcement black mountain nh sources involved in the case have confirmed to TMZ ... the man in the video is indeed Dorner.  And, as one law enforcement source put it, the video is significant black mountain nh because "it shows what he was up to."

As is always said, it's all about the instructor. I got certified at Sport Chalet because out of several instructors I talked to, the one I liked the most and thought I could get the best class from, happened to work at Sport Chalet. Just read this thread How to find an excellent SCUBA class
Sports Chalet is not an agency. It is just a store. As was already las canchitas said read the thread on how to find a good class. If the instructor is good and has the freedom to set class requirements it could be great. If you just get put thru assembly line style it can suck big time.
As has been said, if you think the instructor will do a good job then it really doesn't las canchitas matter which store/shop you go through. I actually have a cert (actually a rescue re-cert) from a Sports Chalet instructor who I had the utmost confidence in.

Don't know your location, but I took my OW and AOW through Sport Chalet here in Las Vegas. My instructor, Scott Carmody, was very attentive and a good teacher. And they give discounts for buying gear during the classes.
I've got three certs through sport chalet (2 different locations). las canchitas The OW was great. The AOW was horrible. las canchitas Nitrox las canchitas was a joke but a very young instructor. However, since I already had a mentor teach me much more, I just needed the official cert. OW and AOW was a classic example of how the instructor matters. What's more, what the instructor is good at matters. My OW was private instruction and the instructor did a great job and I felt very comfortable las canchitas when I was done. I started las canchitas AOW with the same guy. With a very small group, his ability to monitor several was very disappointing. I finished AOW with a different instructor. Read the linked thread above and ask all the right questions. DO NOT BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR A DIFFERENT INSTRUCTOR IF YOU AREN'T COMFORTABLE WITH THE FIRST ONE. Of course, if you go through 2 or 3 instructors, might not be the instructor.

There is treasure off the California coastline. Three gold bars with values ranging between $1,000 and $5,000 are hidden somewhere off Southern California beaches. Sport Chalet, a sports equipment and scuba diving store has graciously painted 3 bars gold and is offering prizes for anyone who finds them.
You can get clues to discovering the location of the gold bars by stopping into your local Sport Chalet store and visiting the SCUBA department, online at their website, nashoba valley ski area or by following their twitter account. If you do find one of the gold bars, they have clear instructions on how to claim the reward. Heads up though, only one gold bar can be found by one person, so don t be greedy!
Honestly, this sounds like a great little treasure hunt and I applaud Sport Challet for finding a great way to encourage people nashoba valley ski area to visit their stores and get outside and go treasure hunting. If you are seriously interested in participating in this treasure hunt, don t wait long, the contest will be over on July 25 th .

Model/Year: 2008 Pros: Strong frame, good geometry Cons: Heavy, stock components were cheap. Recommendation: Bought this December of '07 from Dicks. Hardly nothing left on it of the original components. I like the bomb-proof frame but it is heavy. The original fork was terrible, rockshox tora air fork was a huge upgrade. I added disk brakes, an XL bottom bracket and other goodies so its a whole different animal than when I plucked it off the shelf. 3500 miles all over the US and more soon in the DominicanRepublic...still ove it. But if you don't wanna go through the trouble of upgrading pzż all the cheap parts, pony up $500 or a grand and get something nicer.
Pros: Saddle, strong frame, 120mm travel on the fork, looks good, easy to adjust everything, your basic tank, brakes are effective. Cons: rear mech. is finicky, no lockout. Recommendation: I am beginner but wanted an inexpensive bike I could slap better components on and stick with for awhile. 399 or an 2010 model at Performance. Its been a good bargain for me. I read the reviews pzż here before purchasing.

Got this one for about $350 and have rode the crap out of it since. Love the bike and am very pleased with the puchase. the front shock is garbarge, but gets the job done. when it breaks I'll replace it. Would recommend if anyone asked.
Model/Year: 2008 Pros: It turns out the BB, rims/tires, rotors and calipers have pulled through the last 4-5 years with little fuss. The frame is the real value here, however, even though it has that crappy pzż tonk sound to it. Cons: Well, it's a department store bike. The stock fork was trash and is long gone, basically anything that will break has broken pzż a long time ago. Recommendation: Considering the fork and some other items were destined for quick replacement from the get-go, the bike was at a solid place to start as a beginner. The value is excellent and I hadn't busted my wallet getting the right components rigged for hard and frequent rides, and for the last year it has been perfect pzż as my rigid 69er 1x9 city bike. The frame is cheaper aluminum and pretty clunky, but it's a great platform for entry level upgrades, and if you can get rid of that fork youll have a healthy bike by the time you need one. and put a chain stay guard on that thing because itll tonk like a cowbell. pzż

DO IT! probably one of the best bikes in its price range and is not cheap feeling, looking, or performance wise. overall a good bike!
Pros: Great bike and features for the price. The XE model that I bought has disk brakes. Needed the larger frame size (20") and it feels perfect so far. Cons: Nothing so far Recommendation: Buy this for a first-time mountain biker. Great value, great features.
Pros: Great set up for the price. Good for someone to get started into mountain biking. Cons: The fork can bottom out easy for heavy riders, or aggressive riders. The SRAM X4 drivetrain is only 24 gears Recommendation: pzż Overall, pzż this makes for a great first bike. The frame is a tank, and the overall component spec is enough to get someone started on begginer to intermediate cross country trails.

We had camped for a week in Playa Madera in the extreme south of the country and I confess I have not made the slightest effort to get out of there, everything was very good and cheap, but ... We drove north to Rivas and it followed the signs towards Popoyo , one of the most famous surfing destinations in Nicaragua ... Despite the direction Our final destination was not there but the tranquil and beautiful beach Santana, just before Popoyo ... For me, Leo, was all an interesting deja vu since I was in the same place in 2008, in a quick vacation times the bank ... The most interesting thing is that nothing seems to have changed in the last five years at the beach, as compared to the country it seems that in general is better, the roads are no doubt waaaay better, all new asphalt, great!
