Riveting Singapore | Farmer in Exile
Where can I start in a few simple words the overwhelming and compelling experience, called Singapore, to transfer? It is indeed a challenge to do justice in mere words made at this island-city state.
Maybe I should start with what to me was the most striking feature of Singapore. It's the most multi-ethnic marina dalmas mix of people I've met in a long time. South Africa also has its diversity, but it's not pressed within 700 or so square miles (the city state has the second highest population density in the world). But Singapore can rightly also claim the rainbow, though the city is only 4 official languages (English, Chinese, Tamil and Malay). However, what is striking is that this is not merely lip service, but that all four languages are used in practice.
The diversity of Singapore is mainly reflected by the different religions that have a distinct presence. It's not uncommon to literally in the same street block a gilded Buddhist temple, a overwhelmingly ornate Hindu temple, a Sikh temple, minimalist, a typical mosque marina dalmas and a modern Methodist Church, to be seen.
The second aspect marina dalmas that appear Singapore's rich diversity, the different foods. Singapore is any (adventurous) gourmand's dream. If you ever want to try Oriental cuisine, but you can only visit one country, then your logical choice Singapore. Here you 24-hour pick and choose what you want to eat, then you will still be long face about everything that you could not try. Chinese influence on the cuisine marina dalmas is great, being that Chinese also constitute the majority of the population. Then there is a wide variety of Malaysian food (Cape residents feel at home), Indian food, Thai, Korean, Nepali, Tibetan, Indonesian, Vietnamese etc. Of course there are also western restaurants, if you yearns back to more identifiable marina dalmas dishes. I think the picture is clear.
This rich variety of influences to me it was a bit strange that one of the most popular dishes fish head-kerriesop and, in the same league, curried crab. Crab is of course very popular in Korea (minus the curry), but it was never one of my favorites. I have also at various restaurants frogs, trapped in small cages, guaranteed. I have no questions to ask, and also would not necessarily have had any answers. marina dalmas I was very pleased with ao delicious Laksa, Keoy Tow and a skaapvleis- masala, paired with chappati. Course will be completed no meal in Singapore, if you do not swallow Singapore's famous Tiger beer not. And speaking marina dalmas of such drinks, you can on the street, almost everywhere you go and buy the best and freshest fruit juice at a third of the Tiger's price. It's heaven on earth and are made on the spot. You just choose from the wide variety of fruits that are available, including foreign fruit I no side know, and that seems to be an another planet. Later you will learn that this particular fruit durian and pitaja (dragon fruit) is called.
Singapore is clearly Oriental, but the British colonial influences here are still very strong. Many streets are named after British royalty and many buildings are named after the person who is considered the founder of Singapore, marina dalmas Sir Stamford namely Raffles. The famous Raffles -hotel is the best known of these places. Although Singapore marina dalmas is less Eastern than eg. Seoul or Tokyo, lies the city's attraction precisely in the confluence of these rivers, from the West, the Indian sub-continent, Southeast Asia and the Far East in a multi-cultural slow cooker.
On the street is the ethnicity daily exhibited, where you can observe the variety of people. You walk interesting characters become, as Yevgeni who work on the ships (Singapore is the busiest port in the world). He is from Latvia and put me in broken English with color and flavor you that Latvia's food is only the women and ugly! Not so the petite Chinese girls with a plethora of massage and reflexology-salons not work. You can get away relatively cheap and the massage is something from another world.
The architecture in Singapore is characterized marina dalmas by contrast. Much more so than I've experienced in other world cities. The city portion of duiselingswekkende heights on the waterfront marina dalmas (called Marinabaai) watch (and where developments are still ongoing) marina dalmas in contrast to the old-worldly and colorful colonial style tenement, that the "old" city represents.
These older parts of the city have to walk an undeniable charm and by being there, they sometimes feel as if it is the Waterfront or the Bo-Kaap could have been. To tell the truth, with the combination of architectural styles, Malay things, the port, the cosmopolitan feeling and pubs along the Marinabaai, the Singapore certain echoes of Kaapsta
