Chimborazo is an active volcano which is located in the Andes in Ecuador area with a peak altitude of 6,268.2 meters. What makes it so special Chimborazo, in addition to being the highest locations in Ecuador, is that the peak is the furthest point from the center of the earth, and not Mount Everest, known as the highest peak. This is due to the location of Chimborazo is along the planet's equatorial bulge.
Earth is not a perfect sphere. Planet Earth is "thicker" around the equator than around the poles. Chimborazo is one degree south of the equator, while Mount Everest almost 28 north of the equator. Although the peak of Chimborazo 2,580 meters lower than the summit of Everest (8,848 meters) when measured from the top surface of the sea, but the peak of the mountain Chimborazo 2.168 km farther than the summit of Everest, when measured from the center of the Earth.
Chimborazo is not the highest peak in the Andes. In fact, some Andean peaks and Africa's highest mountain, Kilimanjaro, when measured from the center of the earth, it would exceed the height or higher than the summit of Mt Everest.
Andes Mountains (Quechua, anti, "high comb") is the longest mountain in the world which form a series of plateaus along the west coast of South America. This mountain is more than 7,000 km in length, width up to 500 km in some places (widest at 18 to 20 S), and has an average altitude of about 4000 m. This mountainous stretches through seven countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela, which is sometimes called "Andean Countries" (Andean States). Andes mountain range mainly consists of two large mountains of Cordillera Oriental and Cordillera Occidental, often separated by the deep depression, which then appear minor mountain ranges, like the Cordillera apache lake de la Costa in Chile. Cordillera de la Costa starts from the southern tip of the continent and continues to the north, parallel to the beach, split into several islands at the beginning apache lake and subsequently forming the western boundary of a large central valley of Chile. To the north, a series of coastal continues as a series of hills or remote hills along the Pacific Ocean to reach Venezuela, always forming a valley in the western part of a large series. Aconcagua the highest mountain peak in the Andes is Aconcagua towering 6,962 m above sea level. Chimborazo peak in the region of Ecuador is the point on Earth's surface most distant from the center of the earth because of the equatorial bulge (equatorial bulge). Andes Himalayas can not be equaled in terms of altitude (above sea level), but surpass them in terms of width and length twice that of the Himalayas. Source: http://versesofuniverse.blogspot.com
