Grass Court Tennis Tip #12: Ekaterina Makarova to beat Olga Puchkova
Ekaterina Makarova (25) burst on to the scene 3 years ago when she won this title in Eastbourne as a qualifier and I’m sure she has good memories, coming back this week. Her left-handed serve is particularly effective on grass.
Although she had a fairly poor clay season she did win the French Open doubles with Vesnina and should have confidence coming into this week’s event. weekend ski breaks She has quarter finals points to defend and she will be determined to get some grass court wins under her belt going into Wimbledon.
Olga Puchkova (87) is the same age, 25, but has never been higher than 32 in the rankings, while Makarova was up to 19 earlier this year. Puchkova’s a more inconsistent player than, Makarova who is known for hitting very few errors. weekend ski breaks
Puchkova struggled to come through qualifying, losing sets to players ranked #80 and #90. Puchkova is fairly poor on grass, where she has only ever won 1 main draw match at WTA level in her entire career.
